About Eva Busch - Stone Artist

Eva is an award winning sculptor who gained her University Fine arts & Psychology degrees in Germany before immigrating to New Zealand in 1993 to focus on her passion for sculpture. She has a professional background also in Public Relations and Art Events Management, both here and abroad. Together with her husband, artist Heina Petzold, they very successfully organised, managed and participated in multiple national and international sculpture symposia (9 in NZ, 2 in Australia, and 1 in Germany); in 1998 winning, with one of their sculpture events, the Australian Supreme Award for best cultural event of the year in the context of the National Australian Sister Cities Association’s cultural programs (representing Christchurch at 25th Sister City Anniversary with Adelaide, Australia).

She managed a very successful art studio and gallery for 11 years on Waiheke Island together with her partner and fellow artist Heina Petzold, an award winning copper-enamel artist. In June 2015 they decided to move to beautiful Whanganui, to be closer to family there and to join the vibrant and diverse arts community (Whanganui has over 400 practicing artists!). Both artists display their creations at their venue in Gloucester Street - (Viewing by appointment only.)

Eva is equally at home with either figurative or abstract styles, achieving superb harmony and balance in her creations. Her preferred medium is the dense and hard variety of NZ limestones that result in a smooth and very tactile finish. Visitors are encouraged to touch her works.

Her most favourite stone is the weathered grey rock from Mt. Somers with its pristine cream-white core. Its natural shapes determine the subject matter in contrast to her projecting or forcing own ideas into it. Her creations are solely done with hand tools that allow her to go into very delicate details and shapes. All her works are sealed thoroughly, especially the outdoor ones, therefore made weatherproof (preserving the original look and smooth finish).

Over the years Eva has only participated in two art competitions, one in NZ and one in Switzerland, and has taken away the supreme award in both. But she prefers to create in a non-competitive environment. Her sculptures range from small table pieces to 2 ton garden sculptures. They can be found in private collections and public places, in NZ and abroad.

Much of her work today is by commission.
