Down to Earth

In private collection (NZ)

Made from dense Mt Somers limestone

This is part of a 2 ton sculpture revealing a sleeping woman sitting and leaning against a big rock, embracing it. The front/the body is all white/naked and finished in detail but the dark weathered back of the rock is left almost untouched apart from the “breakthrough” caused by the elbow and face.

This sculpture symbolizes two sides within all of us: the desire to trust and open up/show our true vulnerable self as well as the need to retreat/hide and protect our vulnerability.
